| | A dance I uploaded off the internet. | ] | You'll pardon me if this is old meme, but not too long ago I discovered "Adventure Time with Pen and Jake," a short cartoon make of undiluted joy and oddness. Well, okay, so the joy might be slightly diluted by the oddness, but the oddness is funny oddness, and it's only, like, 13% of the contents, the other 87% is solid platinum joy.
Here is a link.
It is about a boy and his adventures with his shape-shifting dog. There is no word to properly describe the nature of these adventures, so I will invent one: "wackifantsmawesomeagoricalicious." Things that end in "-icious" are automatically good, so you only need to read the last six letters to get it. They are also making it into a show, which will surely be awesome, also it's going to be called "Adventure Time with Finn and Jake," not Pen and Jake, presumably because I have no idea.
There is seriously no part of this that does not make me happy. So, in an effort to share the happiness around, I sent it to you, my beloved flist. Because you are all awesome. I don't mention that enough, but you are.
Here is another short made by the same dude that is also cute but not as crazy awesome. I post it here for you because once you see Adventure Time you will be like "I wish there were more awesomeness to watch!" and this will tide you over. |

| My job hurts my brain sometimes. |
[Aug. 22nd, 2009|10:03 am] |
I am going out of my mind here. At work, they have given me the Statues of Newfoundland to digitize. All of them. All the statutes. That means I spend every day in front of a computer reading tiny little print in dusty tomes and typing out every. Single. Statute that has been written in Newfoundland since 1833! There are thousands of them! THOUSANDS!
Not that the typing is the worst part. The deciphering the language is the worst part. There were thankfully only two years worth of statutes that were handwritten (seriously, and the dude had messed up handwriting), but all of them are written in this musty formal style that is very hard to understand. The days drag. I barely even notice what I'm typing most of the time.
But not all of the time. For your reading displeasure, I am posting a couple of the most ridiculous passages I've transcribed so far. Some are funny because of the antiquated language, some for the ideas, and some for the nested acts. You'll understand what I'm talking about when you read. Maybe you will find them as amusing as I did. Or maybe your brain will melt out of your ears. Could go either way.
( An Act to amend an Act entituled... )
Bonus funtime learning experience! The Newfoundland Statues' Top 5 Favourite Words:
1. Promulgate : (v) to make known by open declaration 2. Sundry : (adj) various or diverse 3. Defray : (v) to bear or pay all or part of (the costs, expenses, etc.) 4. Insolvency : (n) bankruptcy 5. Abatement (esp. "The more speedy Abatement") : reduction; decrease; alleviation; mitigation
Honourary mention:
Entituled: "An Act to amend/continue/repeal/repeal in part An Act entituled..." Empannelling: "An Act to [...] regulate the Empannelling of Jurors" |

So, I got an email today from my old Fanfiction.net account, alerting me to a new review I'd gotten on a (by now, very old) fic. On a whim, I decided to log in to my account, which I haven't used in about, say, three years. They've got a new setup for recording the number of visitors you get to any given fic, so I decided to look up the ridiculous piece I made up for the Secret CRAXheadilism treasure hunt back in 2006.
It has nearly 800 hits. I was like, "OMB?????" (If five exclamation marks are the sure sign of an insane mind, what are five question marks?) I can't possibly believe 800 people went on the treasure hunt, which means most of them must have dropped by afterward. Or maybe they're repeats. Still, 800? WTH? It just blows my mind that people still find this stuff years after it was written.
What weird things will the next generations stumble upon when they go fic trawling in the future? Will someone be reading this post three years down the road and leave a comment saying, "Yup, I sure did!" Has the internet eroded the lines between present and past?
Yeah, that's probably crediting too much importance to one review. Still, it makes you think, and what I think is that I'm going to spend the rest of the evening truckin' through the fics my younger self added to her Favourites List way back in 2000. It should be good for a laugh, or some nostalgia. Maybe I'll even leave one of the authors a review. |

[Jul. 5th, 2009|07:52 pm] |
Fianlly got KatieO and Kellypen's pictures done; only J's left, then. Took me a while, since I was lazy and then on Canada Day, which I normally have off, I had to work.
I experimented a bit on these pictures, using tools I'd never used before and styles I hadn't tried before. As a result, they suck. I am sorry you had to wait for these messes, Katie and Kelly. :(

[Jun. 22nd, 2009|01:26 pm] |
Had today off, what with it being the feast of St John the Baptist (a civic holiday here in good ol' NL), so I got NB's picture done. ( Voila! )
I'm still taking offers! Ask me what you'd like me to draw and I will draw it. Offer ends soon-- be the next on your block to have your word salad become a real life series of pixels transmitted over the internet! |

Only had two replies, which is a-okay, as they took me a while to do anyway. The offer still stands for the rest of you guys, if you want me to draw something.

I am shocked at how fast I got these done, especially compared to what I used to churn out. SO HAPPY. *loves tablet*
So, now everyone totally wants a picture, right? Ask away! I'll get them done ASAP. :D |

| It's all about YOU! |
[Jun. 19th, 2009|05:57 pm] |
Okay, I've been gone a long time, which makes me a bad friend. Me culpa, man. Since I am a terrible friend, I will endeavor to amend it and do something amusing for you, my beloved flist, because you are sweet, wonderful people, each and every one.
At Christmas, I received a brand-spankin' new graphics tablet, which I adore but which I'm only getting to use now, since I was away so long. With it came Photoshop and some other software, which is love. I didn't realize how great it is compared to GIMP, and I love GIMP (it's free). But there's a problem: I need practice using the tablet! Oh noes, what's a Ronka to do?
Simple: I am offering to draw you anything you (yes, YOU) like. Give me something to draw, and I will draw it. A heartbroken tongue-depressor? I'll draw it. Snakes in smoking vests? I'll draw that, too. The complete works of Shakespeare as conceived by Salvador Dali? I'll-- actually that might be beyond my grasp, but I'll give it my best shot! I'll even try to colour it, since I am terrible at colouring and could use the practice! And I discovered a really fast way of colouring, which makes me feel like an idiot for thinking there was ever another way. Yah.
N-E-ways, suggest away, my friends! I'll work on 'em tonight and try to have 'em posted tomorrow. Weekends are for sleeping in late. |

| Hey, long time no see. |
[Jun. 14th, 2009|06:14 pm] |
So, a long, long, long time ago, I was in Saint Pierre, France, and I said, "I'll probably be updating all the time because it is so boring here." And it was boring, most of the time, but I did not update. Pourquoi? Well, my computer got a virus and I could not longer use my computer, let alone access the interwebs. And so, I was without internet for three months, a lo, it did suck. I felt like i was in the medieval ages, except there was still indoor plumbing.
Anyway, I've spent most of the time I've been back jetting around eastern Canada, first helping my sister haul her stuff back home from university, then roadtripping around New England. By that, I mean shopping in Kittery.
And now I'm well and truly home and have become obsessed with TVTropes.org. I'm serious, it's like an addict, and any time I read a book or watch a movie or see and ad I think, "What tropes is this thing using? Is it subverting them, or playing it straight? Can I make a YKTTW about this?" It's weird.
So, I know I've been LJ dead for a few months, which happens to me fairly frequently. I am lame.
How've you all been? |

| No, Virginia, there are no Christmas cards. But Santa's real, so, whew. |
[Dec. 8th, 2008|10:03 pm] |
I feel really horrible about not sending out Christmas cards this year, but I'm a bit busy with exams and such, and I don't really have the time to make 'em up and send 'em out, or even buy 'em and send 'em, or do anythin' with 'em.
Sorry, guys. I'm still thinking of you this Christmas season! :) |

| Boo! Happy Halloween! |
[Oct. 31st, 2008|11:59 pm] |
Our city ran out of pumpkins this Halloween. The entire city. I had no idea how addicted to pumpkins this place was, but there you have it. And so I couldn't carve a pumpkin this year, even though I really wanted to. So instead I carved a piece of cardboard.
( This is what it would have looked like if it had been carved into a pumpkin and not the remains of a Xerox box. )
We didn't have many kids out, probably because it was freezing out and raining a bit. Our first kid was this small boy in a fire fighters costume and he looked ADORABLE. Then we got teenagers who weren't even in costumes, which is the opposite of cute. And one little boy had to be carried away by his dad because he didn't want to leave and kept reaching back to the house going "More! More! More!" but he was, like, three, so it was cute and not bratty.
But the tragedy is we only had about sixty kids and now we have all this chocolate laying around the house. Ho hum. What will we do with it all? |

To make amends for my political post, politics being a subject I am loathe to discuss in general, I shall treat you (or subject you, depending on the point of view) to my latest drawing ("drawing" here pronounced with an "R" after the "A", which I understand is considered highbrow in England), which I hope to enter into an online art contest, and endeavor to win.
( Pardon my pixels. )
And th-th-th-that's all, folks! :) |

[Sep. 25th, 2008|07:21 pm] |
I have been having a not so great two days. I have an in-class essay tomorrow, and I need to be focused for it, and I can't be focused if I'm miserable. Could I ask you, dear flist, to try and cheer me up? Jokes, photos, happy stories, comfort, etc.
I don't want to be miserable during an inclass. Thanks! :) |
